Importance of identifying basic geometric figures in children
For our children, knowing the basic geometric figures, such as: squares, rectangles, circles and triangles, means for them to be able to establish relationships with their closest and most immediate environment.
Relationship of mathematics and knowledge of geometric figures
One of the most didactic ways to introduce Mathematics in early childhood education between 4 and 5 years old, is beginning to understand the relationships between objects and for this it is essential to have acquired the main geometric figures, through them they will be able to compare the different objects that they surround (ball, window, napkin) with the figures themselves (circle, rectangle, square).
Exercises for the introduction of geometric figures in children
- Know and identify the main geometric figures (circle, square, triangle and rectangle)
- Introduce new geometric figures such as the rhombus or the ellipse
- Identify familiar geometric figures in a drawing (roof-triangle/circle-sun/square-window)
Once these objectives have been overcome, we can begin to play to identify the different geometric figures learned in their closest environment (bedroom, kitchen, living room, bathroom) and progressively increase these circles (park, school).
